Question

I think I've mentioned before that I got my mom interested in AG dolls at Christmas. I'm putting together a PM Molly and Addy set for her. Molly, as my DM was 10 when Molly was and Addy as my DM's childhood home had a secret hide-a-way and it was rumored that escaped slaves hid there in CW times. Anyhoo, my mom's a Red Hatter and I would love to find an outfit for the doll's to wear. The outfit can only be red or deep purple or a combination thereof...and of course a red hat! I've looked on eBay and other places. Unfortunately I'm not a doll clothes sewer. Any ideas would be most welcome.

I've seen very cute bear sweaters in Ben Frankin and maybe even Michael's. They are purple with a red hat embroidered on them and a red feather boa for a collar. And these sweaters fit AGs perfectly. You could get one of these sweaters and pair it with Molly's red camp shorts and find a hat somewhere.

    This site has the sweater.

Isn't there a member of the Red Hat society on these boards? She even runs a chapter called Red Hot Dolly Mamas dedicated to this sort of thing.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Thanks, Bean Bunny - that would be me, although I have greatly neglected my Chapter the last few months!

Havimom, you need to realize that these dolls are only girls, and therefore not eligible for full red and purple regalia. But we love to dress our dollies in lavendar and pink and call them Pink Hat Princesses! Here is a picture of Marisol trying her hat on her friend Kristy:

Marisol is wearing the lavendar shirt that came with the denim school jumper, and has added the flapper outfit headband (with a few extra pink feathers tucked in) as a hatband to her tap dance hat.

Edited to add that Marisol's boas are also big Pink Princess regalia items!

Thanks for all the great advise. I was thinking red/purple like the bears and dolls you see in stores. However, I like the pink princess idea. Do you know where I could purchase pink doll hats? The one in Jeanette M.'s picture is adorable!

I was looking into the Red Hat Society for my mom a while back, and wanted to mention that Jeanette's pink hat comments are the standard for younger members. Once women reach a certain age, they can upgrade to the red hats. As a "red hatter," your mom would probably understand and know the pink hat rule and not mind her doll being a pink hatter.

Here's the info. on who is a pink hatter:

Would you feel silly taking the doll into a craft store? They often have hats and other accessories meant for bears, and I've heard some work okay for AGs.

Have lots of fun with your project!
